The Onset of J-nesis MizikGregory Moreau (Greg-Nice) and Kelly EmmanuelJ-nesis MizikJ-nesis is the new sound of kompa music. Although some of you may have just heard them, they're not new to the kompa world. The band began in 1999 under the direction of keyboard player Kelly Emmanuel and eventually released a great album titled "Se Konsan Flo.” Although their album was successful and the band was on the rise, the band's lead singer left in 2004 because of a disagreement among band mates. Greg-Nice took the lead singer's place the same year, bringing the band back into kompa music once again. The band has just released a new hit single titled “Trust Me.”Greg-Nice
Greg-Nice was born on April 6 in Haiti, where he grew up. Brought up in a Christian family, he developed a love for music at a very young age. When he was about 5 years old, he had his first experience with spotlight singing in front of a crowd of a few hundred at a Lionel Benjamin Christmas concert in which he ranked among the top 10. Greg later joined the neighborhood church choir where he sang background vocal for a few years before moving to the US. Greg Nice's life mentor is his mother, although musically he looks up to those great musicians who paved the way for kompa music, such as Roger Colas, Timanno, and Lemou Jean-Baptist among others. Greg listens to a vast variety of music from your typical club bangers, jazz, and R & B to soul and what he enjoys doing the most—kompa. When not in his studio producing hit songs we all love, he is answering e-mails from his adoring fans. His personal goal is to leave his mark in the Haitian culture like those who came before him, and he hopes that his music will continue to bring joy to people around the world for generations to come Kelly Emmanuel
Also born in Haiti, Kelly's childhood years were spent immersed in Haitian culture and music. His musical career began at the young age of 8 when he began taking piano lessons. He became interested in kompa music and was excited to play it after listening to one of his favorite kompa artists, Sweet Mickey. He continued his talent of playing the piano after coming to the US at the age of 10. He finished junior high and high school in the States and spent time jamming with other musician friends continuing to develop his skill. After four years of studying computer networking at Catherine Gibbs, Kelly started the band J-nesis. Kelly likes a variety of music from jazz to R & B and soul, but his top favorite will always be where his talent lies—kompa. If Kelly is not working with band members on creating new hit songs or helping direct and plan performances for the band, then he is either playing or watching basketball or working out at the gym. His favorite car is his Benz. |
